SPLM-DC intends to prevent time bomb

June 19, 2009 — When you take a closer look at the structures of the government of southern Sudan, you would asked yourself is it right to called it the government of southern Sudan? Or its right name should be a government of a particular tribe? As we all know that southern Sudanese and the marginalized people of Sudan took arms against Khartoum regime because they felt oppressed and treated as second citizens in their own country. As a result of that subjugation, we fought the Sudan government to liberate the marginalized people of the Sudan. Thanks to the brave men and women who brought the CPA in 2005. Moreover, the movement has been up and down since it’s formation in 1983, but people were patient and remain vigilant because their main goal was to defeat the common enemy which is Khartoum regime and hoping that democratic system, rule of law, Justice, and equal representations would be the corner state of semi-autonomous south.
When the CPA was signed four years a go, southern Sudanese in particular were thrilled and hoped that their situation would get better and they are on the verge to enjoyed dividends of peace. Also the marginalized people of the Sudan were overjoyed and hopeful that they are finally liberated from tyranny of Khartoum regime. The Sudanese people from Diaspora were more than ready to bring home their learned skills to help the new born child to deliver the services to the people of the southern Sudan. In 2006, Late Dr. John Garang was welcome in Khartoum by thousands of thousands, if the polls were taken like in western countries; his favorite rating would be some where between 70-80%. The marginalized people of Sudan believed that the coming of Dr. John Garang can improve many policies in Sudan, as well as the lives of those who have lost hope in their government. Unfortunately, that tragic incident happened and the people of Sudan lost great hero a man with clear vision of the new Sudan.
However, it didn’t take long for hopefulness to turn into hopelessness because the very policies of marginalization that were practiced by Khartoum regime were also adapted by the current leadership of the SPLM in a greatest length. The GOSS failed to deliver the basic services to the people of South Sudan because of the poor leadership being provided by the SPLM. The very polices that we fought against for almost 22 years are completely adapted by current SPLM Leadership. Therefore, they shouldn’t be the blue print of the SPLM party that I know. Year by year, citizens of southern Sudan were praying that things may change for better as time goes by, but instead, things changed for the worst as time goes by.
Senior members of SPLM have been criticizing Dr. Lam Akol for the formation of SPLM-DC, and they even went further and called him the enemy of peace. What I don’t understand is how come somebody who was a part of those who were architect of the SPLM/A would be the enemy of peace? Dr. Lam Akol foresees that the current road of the SPLM is taking a very dangerous path and it would lead to the explosion of a time bomb.
My dear southern Sudanese and the marginalized people of Sudan, let us be realistic, nobody including some senior members of SPLM like the way the SPLM is running the southern Sudan affairs, but people are tightening their belts and wait for the referendum and the time bomb would explode. SPLM leadership knows that very well, but they don’t want to be proactive to deal with such a situation that is real threat to the stability of the south Sudan. It is better to change the way SPLM is ruling the southern Sudan before it is to late.
