Darfur News Update by Radio Dabanga (30 October  “ 5 November)

KHARTOUM (5 Nov)  “ In a wave of arrests, the Sudan National Security moved against Darfurian human rights activists and journalists in Khartoum on Saturday afternoon. The security services raided the offices of the Human Rights and Advocacy Network (HAND). Human rights activist Abdelrahman Adam (35), who works for Radio Dabanga and HAND, was among those arrested. Another journalist was arrested Wednesday, Gafar Alsabki (37) of Al Sahafa newspaper. Radio Dabanga has learnt the names of some of those who disappeared, but the government has not confirmed any of the names of those detained.

The US State Department condemned the arrest, as did the UNAMID peacekeeping mission in Darfur. The international human rights organization Amnesty International made a call to action to put pressure on the government to release the detainees.
