Sudanese journalist Lubna Ahmed Al-Hussein, who was recently arrested and charged with indecency by the Sudanese government, remains resilient while awaiting trial next month, reports The Arab American News. According to the news report, Al-Hussein was arrested for wearing trousers, a crime which can carry the penalty of 40 lashes. Al-Hussein asserted that this law is not justified by Islam and not grounded in the country’s constitution, and said that if she is sentenced to be whipped, or to anything else, she would appeal. “I will see it through to the end, to the constitutional court if necessary, and if the constitutional court says the law is constitutional, I’m ready to be whipped not 40 but 40,000 times,” she said. Al-Hussein had a court date last week, however officials adjourned the case until next month to investigate the issue of her immunity.
