The Abyei Police Manager Colonel, Mohamed Abdul Gadir, unfolded a security plan in a preemptive move ahead of the decision of the Permanent Court of Arbitration over the Abyei area which is due next month. The plan is divided into three phases including political media and security mobilization.
The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Sudan, Ashraf Qazi, said during a press conference in Khartoum today that his mission will implement preventive measures in the wake of the ruling of the Permanent Court of Arbitration adding that these measures fall within the mission’s mandate.
Qazi further confirmed that he will be present in Abyei during the announcement of the Court’s verdict to monitor the security situation in the area.
However he pointed that maintaining security is mainly the government’s responsibility.
