Umma and Popular Congress party reject creation of two new states

KHARTOUM (26 June) – The Umma and Popular Congress party, who are in the opposition, have rejected the proposal of the government to create two new states in Darfur. The two parties have affirmed their position that Darfur must have one region and within this region three states. Miriam Al Sadig, a prominent leader of Umma party told Radio Dabanga that one region is a historical right to the people of Darfur.
 
On his part, lawyer Kamal Abel Salam, the political secretary of the Popular Congress party said that the issue of more states is premature and no one is entitled to talk on behave of people of Darfur. Abel Salma stressed to Radio Dabanga that the issue of one states is a legal right of the people of Darfur.
