South Sudan leader: Do not ask me about ties with Israel

Southern Sudan’s president, Salva Kiir Mayardit on Thursday denied the existence of relations between the south and Israel. Quoted by Asharq alawsat newspaper, Salva Kiir said: “The rumors are not true,” adding, “Do not ask me about this.”

Sources familiar with a closed meeting held Wednesday between Kiir and the Secretary General of the Arab League, Amr Moussa, in Juba, said the issue of relations with Israel was raised during the talks. They conveyed that the head of the southern government denied these reports, saying he well understood the sensitivity of this issue to the Arab side.

The sources said that “Salva Kiir requested to open an office of the Arab League in Juba.”

The sources pointed out that during the meeting Moussa asked Salva Kiir: “We know you have a large number of titles, soon you may have one title… Do you want after the referendum many titles or just one title  – Head of State ?.”
