Central DARFUR, like many other parts of Darfur, has been subjected to hideous crimes, war crimes, crimes against humanity and the mother of all crimes, genocide. In this video embedded here/ referenced below, the new civilian governor of Central DARFUR Dr. Adeeb Yousif visited with a group of citizens the outskirts of Mukjar and according to the speaker, it is a mass grave goes back to crimes committed in March 2004 by the Government of Sudan and by the military leader of the pro government militia, Ali Mohammed Abdelrahman “Kushayb” where 97 persons were killed and buried in the mass grave before them. He remembered some of the names :-

The victims where escorted from Mukjar to the execution ground and then they were buried in the mass grave to hide the evidence by placing a big tree over the mass grave. An order was followed through a chain of commands and it was instructed by the heads of the military of Sudan.
Dr. Adeeb, the new governor of Central DARFUR was there talking to the relative of the victims. He mentioned three important things: justice, recognising the location of the crime and mass grave and the importance of constructing museum / memorial to display the remains of the victims to showcase this to the current generation and the generations to come.
This is only one of many location where the evidence of genocide of very clear. It is the longest ongoing genocide in recent history.
The people of DARFUR need closure and that could only be achieved via accountability of the head figures of the perpetrators and also via following demands from the transitional government of Sudan:
- A peace agreement that addresses the root cause of the issue. This should be upmost priority for the state. Without implementation of peace, the balance of power with continue to tip the scale towards more heinous crimes against the civilians.
- To officially invite the ICC DARFUR investigation team to the country and GRANTING them full access, security and freedom of movement, to conduct further investigations regarding the genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.
- In parallel, immediate handover of Bashir and other wanted persons (ref. 1) to ICC for them to face justice at Le Hague
