Doha: A summit is expected to be held between the presidents of Sudan and Chad soon to resolve differences between them, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud has said.
In a statement to Arrayah published yesterday, the minister said the date of the summit will be left to the leadership of the two countries to set in consultation with the Libyan leadership. He noted that ending tension in relations between the two countries will contribute to a solution to the Darfur problem.
The minister said his recent visit to Khartoum and his talks with Sudanese officials, had achieved “positive and good results”, noting that the discussions dealt with the efforts made to achieve peace in Darfur and future plans aimed to push forward the peace process and to resume the Doha negotiations.
The minister added that the talks covered as well the Chadian-Sudanese relations and a number of issues of common concern.
In a message to all Sudanese he stressed that solutions to conflicts need wisdom and sacrifices by all, adding that results can be achieved only by co-operation and sincere desire to reach peace.
“As mediators, we have to bring closer the views of all parties, but the major duty lies within the parties concerned,” he said.-QNA
