Over 400 disappeared after Omdurman attack

KHARTOUM (31 May) – Amnesty International says that the government holds full responsibility for the disappearance of more than 400 people from Darfur following the attack of the Justice and Equality Movement on Omdurman in May 2008. Amnesty International states in its annual report 2008 that the government has arrested hundreds of people immediately after the JEM-attack just because they are from the Darfur region. According to Amnesty International, this is in breach of the international humanitarian treaties. The report reveals deliberate discrimination of anyone who is from the Darfur region. Rania Raga, heading the Sudan Desk of Amnesty International, told Radio Dabanga from London.
