Darfur rebels say they have clashed with government troops in renewed fighting in Sudan’s troubled western province. The rebel Justice and Equality Movement says government forces attacked its posts in North Darfur on Thursday near the regional capital of El Fasher. It says three rebel troops were killed and eight wounded in the fighting.
Ali Alwafi, a local JEM commander, said in a statement posted on the movement’s website that fighters from other rebel groups joined in repulsing the government offensive. There was no immediate comment from Sudan’s government. (AP)
