The commissioner of Nasir County in the Upper Nile State, Garhoth Gatkouth told Miraya fm that about seventy-five people were killed in the recent cattle raid in the area. Mr. Gatkouth said that those who died were mostly innocent children and women.
He said that effort is being made to restore stability in Nasir County.
Meanwhile, commissioner Gatkouth pleaded that people in the area need food, health services and clean drinking water.
He added that the county authority is making efforts to develop the agricultural sector to improve the living conditions of the people.
In the meantime, the Commissioner of Rank County Upper Nile State; Deng Akui condemned the closure of the border between Upper Nile and White Nile States by the Sudan Armed Forces.
He said that the road was closed for eight hours during the visit of President Al-Bashir to the White Nile to inaugurate the Kenana Ethanol Factory.
Commissioner Akue described the move as a military provocation, stressing that the road is only for the use of civilians.
Miraya FM could not get an immediate comment from the Sudan armed Forces on this issue.
