UN Confirms Genocide in Sudan: UAE and RSF Militia Must Be Held Accountable

A recent report covered by the BBC highlights the findings of a United Nations Fact-Finding Mission which concluded that war crimes, crimes against humanity, and acts with genocidal intent are being committed in Sudan. El-Fashir to be Particular.

This is not an allegation from activists alone. It is not rhetoric. It is the assessment of a formal UN investigative mechanism mandated to examine violations of international humanitarian law.

For Sudanese civilians, especially in Darfur and Kordofan, this confirmation comes after months and years of documented atrocities: mass killings, systematic rape, starvation sieges, drone attacks on residential areas, forced displacement, and ethnic targeting of entire communities. The RSF militia is the direct perpetrator, and it is well known who stands behind it and masterminds these crimes: the United Arab Emirates.

What the UN Mission Found

The UN Fact-Finding Mission concluded that:
• Civilians are being deliberately targeted.
• Sexual violence is being used systematically.
• Aid is being obstructed, weaponising hunger.
• Ethnic communities are being singled out for elimination.
• Crimes amounting to crimes against humanity and potentially genocide have occurred.

These findings align with extensive survivor testimony, satellite imagery, investigative journalism, and documentation from human rights organisations.

This is not post-conflict suffering. It is an ongoing campaign of organised mass violence.

The Central Role of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Milita

The UN findings place particular responsibility on the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a militia long associated with atrocities in Darfur.

In areas under RSF militia control, civilian life collapses. Reports describe:
• Summary executions
• Mass detention sites
• Forced disappearances
• Sexual violence against women and girls
• Entire towns emptied through terror and bombardment

In Al-Fashir alone, thousands were killed within days of the October 2025 invasion. Mass graves have been documented. Survivors report conditions consistent with genocidal violence.

The Question the UN Report Raises: Who Enables This?

The UN Fact-Finding Mission identifies grave violations, but the international response must go further.

The RSF does not operate independently. Its ability to deploy heavy weapons, operate drones, maintain detention sites, and sustain prolonged offensives depends on external financing, arms supply, logistics, and political protection.

Credible investigations, reporting, and evidence repeatedly indicate the role of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a principal financier and enabler of the RSF.

If genocide is being committed, then those who fund, arm, and sustain the perpetrators cannot be shielded by diplomatic ambiguity.

Naming the crime requires naming the enablers.

From Recognition to Consequence

The UN has now confirmed what Sudanese civilians have been screaming for months: genocide-level crimes are unfolding.

The question is no longer whether atrocities are occurring.

The question is:

Will the international community impose consequences?

Darfur Union in the United Kingdom calls for:
• Designation of the RSF as a terrorist organisation.
• Immediate targeted sanctions on entities financing and enabling the militia, such as UAE, the mastermind behind the ongoing genocidal war.
• Independent investigation into state-level complicity.
• Suspension of arms transfers that may reach RSF supply chains, also sanctions to countries that are offering their lands or airspace to conduct this war.
• Urgent humanitarian access to besieged civilian populations.

Genocide does not stop because it is recognised.
It stops when there is accountability.

A Final Warning

Sudan today stands as a test of international resolve.

If a UN Fact-Finding Mission can determine genocidal intent, yet no meaningful action follows, then international law becomes symbolic rather than protective.

The people of Sudan deserve more than acknowledgement.

They deserve justice.
